    Finds from the Russian campaign

Message par yanlesom le Mar 27 Déc 2011 - 16:26

    Dear All,
over the Russian campaign so many military artefacts were dropped by the Grand Armee. And many of it can hardly be identified due to lack of historical sources of that period. Especially for non-french regiments.

For example the grenades or horns insignias can not be clearly matched with the related regiments untill you find the full uniform burried in the ground.

As long as you should have more information of your native military uniform I do hope you han give us a hand in identification.

The below's horn is from the 1812 campaign.

The letters "PR" gives following ideas:
    1) Portugaise Regiment (batallons legere)
    2) Premier Regiment (very weak idea)
    3) Paris Regiment (kind of Paris National guardes?)

А following stamp was also found in Russia.

This item seem to be belonged to a Chef d’Etat Major de l'artillerie de l'armee d'Italie - Jacques Alexandre Francois Berthier de Grandry and lost over the compaign on 1812 in Russia on the ways of the 4th corps retreat in November 1812.

Hello. I'm curious to know where you found these. Also, are you historian, student or searcher ?

    Keep us in touch!

    Hello! Pardon for long-time silence.

I am the searcher and a collector at once.
My main area is buttons. Those the ones I collect and study.
The rest of items I keep as long as I find it.

The stamp of artillery chef was found near Duhovshina.
On 7 November Eugene de Boharnais and italian army left Dorogobuzh and went to the North to Duhovshina. While crossing the river they were attacked by cossacs and artillery and had a great losses but still could survive and reach Smolensk.
