CTW Argentina and US faction previews

Message par Jakob le Mer 19 Mar 2008 - 20:12

CTW (Colonial Total War) is a mod of NTW2 that is centered around the Napoleonic Type Wars of the New World.(War of 1812, Haitian Independence, South American Wars, etc) (Its being worked on by [N]Horton and myself, we also had Anthon on our team, but his passing has left it with just the two of us)

So far the US faction is near completion as is the Argentine faction is being worked on and will soon be finished. Next we will work on the remodling of Spain and England and have a possible beta release for late April.

Here are some screenshots of the US and Argentine factions:

US Light Dragoons cross the river to flank the British line

US Infantry of the Line form on the banks of the river in support of the Boston Fusiliers

A US State Militia company forms up for a musket skirmish with the Brits across the river

US Regiment of Rifles modified since last post:

The Boston Fusiliers fire a salvo into the British after crossing the river:

The Boston Fusiliers Charge w/ Bayonets:

**(Please note that it has been decided the Boston Fusiliers will NOT Be in the finished mod. For grenadier/footguard type units the US marines will fulfill the job, and it was deemed impractical to use a unit that there was virtually no record of in the 1812 sources)**

    More:

Boston Fusiliers fire another salvo at the British Rearguard, a detachment of the 95th Rifles.

(Note, again, even though the BF will not be in the finished mod they were a fun unit so I included them here)

US Light Dragoons charge the rifles, now un-supported:

A poor Rifleman is cut down by a 'colonial' sword:

    US Artillery Regulars 8lb guns

Some Notes about the United States Faction:

The united states will specialize in its line infantry. State militias, in some cases, were better trained than the regulars. The US line will have good shooting attributes, but not quite as good as their British counterparts. They have limited cavalry, but their cav is not weak. US line and Marines will be given the option of loose formation.

    Argentina:

We haven't made lots of progress as far as screenshots go, but I will post a few and give you a description of their units.

Here's the first WIP for the Argentina Fusiliers and the existing Granaderos á Caballo. There's some detailing that needs finished with the skins on both, and the officers and such need done...

They rush by the US Line

    They charge the French uphill

Here's the low down on some of their units:

The Argentine Faction will be slightly similar to France, infantry will have good stamina, exceptional lights and outstanding Cavalry. Becuase of Argentina's wide open plains, Cavalry could train en masse and were renowned for their charges.

Cazadores: Light Infantry, good at shooting and long range fire fights, poor melee, especially against cavalry

Fusilieros: This made up for the bulk of the Argentine army after the reforms of the Revolution against the mother country, Spain. Argentine Fusilieros will be similar to that of French infantry, average shooting skills, good stamina, and average melee skills.

Granaderos de la Guardia: Gaurd Grenadiers of Argentina will have average shooting skills, good moral, and excellent melee skills

Voluntarios á Caballo: Drawn from the Horsemen of the Pampas, these men have excellent riding skills. They are a cheap unit capable of harrasing and scouting enemy positions, but don't expect them to hold their own against Heavy Cavalry.

Husares Argentinos: Light Cavalry unit capable of launching sudden quick attacks against the enemy. They are capable of scouting and raiding enemy positions. Best against wavering enemies.

Husares de la Guardia: Argentine Guard Hussars are an excellent cavalry unit that are used in the same manner as the Hussars of the Line, however they pack more of a punch and tend to hold out better against heavy troops. Best at leading an attack supported buy infantry.

Dragones Argentinos: Can be used for light and heavy cavalry uses. Quick enough to scout and harass the enemy yet also capable of over running enemy positions with support.

Granaderos á Caballo: The Guard Cavalry of Argentina proved it's worth time and again in the fights for independence. Notorious for their charges, these bastards were known to charge up hill against infantry and win. Being without armour unlike most other Guard Cavalry units, their defence is not as great as their attack. (Their attack will be amazing, I might add) These guys are best used as shock units.

We will post more on the Argentine faction soon. If anyone is interested in helping us please contact us on our forums at http://z15.invisionfree.com/War_of_1812_submod/index.php?act=idx
